SASNET-L & R (South Asia Network of Lakes & Reservoirs) is the regional Network of Individuals and organizations working for Protection, Conservation and Management of lakes and other types of surface water resources based on the principles enshrined in the World Lake Vision (WLV) promoted by International Lake Environment Committee (ILEC) Foundation, Japan. The Network is also committed to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) advocated by Global Water Partnership (GBP). Initially it was launched as NET-WET (Network of Wetlands) at the end of 2 day GWP-SASTAC sponsored workshop on ‘Lake Management in India’ held on 12-13th December 2001. In the workshop, attended by 56 delegates from all over India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, 25 case studies were presented in VI sessions including one on the technologies. Subsequently, It was renamed as South Asia Network of Lakes and Reservoirs (SASNET-L & R) to increase its scope and out-reach. The network is an associated programme of Indian Association of Aquatic Biologists (IAAB), Hyderabad, India, and a member of (Capacity Building Network for IWRM (CapNet) and its regional chapter CapNet South Asia. SASNET-L & R collaborates with all types of National, Regional and International organizations and Institutions in the pursuit of sustainability of lakes and reservoirs by applying the principles of WLV and IWRM.
